Which cars do you cover?
Any car with a UK registration. The free check and the £10 vehicle history check both run on it.
Are you connected to Auto Trader or any car seller?
No. Chequered Past is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Auto Trader or any other car advert platform or seller. The check is built from official DVLA and DVSA records, supplied through our licensed data provider VDGL, and the manufacturer's build record from One Auto.
What's in the vehicle history check?
Five sections, for the registration you enter:
- Vehicle record: the DVLA record and the factory build list: the equipment the car left the factory with.
- Provenance: outstanding finance, write-off and stolen markers, keepers, and plate changes.
- MOT and mileage: every MOT test, with the mileage recorded at each one.
- Valuation: what the car is worth on today's market.
- Timeline: the car's recorded history in date order.
If you type in the car's VIN, we also tell you whether it matches the official record.
What does it cost?
The free check costs nothing. The vehicle history check is £10 and runs on any UK registration.
Where does the data come from?
The check uses official DVLA and DVSA records for the car's registration, a licensed vehicle-data provider for provenance such as outstanding finance and write-off markers, and the manufacturer's build record. It presents what those records say: it is not a redistribution of raw data records.

Is the check buying advice?
No. The check is factual record data. It is not buying advice, a formal valuation, or a guarantee of the vehicle's condition or the seller's claims, and it is not a physical inspection. We always recommend a physical pre-purchase inspection by a qualified specialist before buying any used performance car.
Can I get a refund?
The vehicle history check is generated automatically and delivered immediately, so by ordering it you waive the 14-day cancellation right under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations. If we cannot produce your check, you are not charged. For anything else about a payment, email hello@chequeredpast.uk within 14 days quoting your order reference.
