The Used Alpine Buying Guide
Alpine sells a different idea of a fast car. Where most performance brands chase power, the A110 chases lightness, and the result is a car that rewards a particular kind of owner and punishes assumptions made from a photograph. Low volumes make that harder, not easier. There are fewer cars, fewer specialists, and far less shared knowledge than you would find buying a 911 or an M3.
This guide explains what actually matters when buying a used Alpine, which models we cover, and how a Chequered Past history check tells you what the car advert will not.
Why a used Alpine needs more scrutiny, not less
Scarcity cuts both ways. A well-kept Alpine is a genuinely special thing, but low UK volumes mean fewer comparable cars to price against, and less of the collective ownership knowledge that makes a mainstream performance car easy to buy safely.
Specification is where it bites hardest. Alpine’s trim structure changed materially between phases, and several of the things buyers assume are fitted simply were not available. No A110 has ever had adaptive dampers, whatever a car advert claims. Focal audio and Focal Premium are two different products. Heated seats cannot be fitted to a bucket-seat car, because Alpine only ever sold heating as part of a different seat entirely.
Three things separate a good used Alpine from a costly one:
- Specification honesty. On a car with this many trim and option permutations, a claimed feature is worth checking against what that exact variant could actually be built with.
- Service discipline. Small-volume cars need the right specialist attention, and gaps in the record matter more when there are fewer people who know the car.
- A clean structural past. The A110 uses a bonded, riveted and welded aluminium structure, so repair history deserves close attention.
A pre-purchase check is not about distrust. It is about paying the right price for the right car, with your eyes open.
The Alpine models we cover
We provide pre-purchase analysis across the Alpine range. Pick your model for the detailed guide:
- Alpine A110, the mid-engined lightweight that restarted the brand. We cover the 2018 to 2024 cars, across both phases and every trim from Pure to the R.
- Alpine A290, the electric hot hatch, and the first Alpine most buyers will cross-shop against mainstream rivals.
(The history check runs on any UK car.)
What we check on every Alpine
Every Chequered Past history check covers the same ground:
- the factory spec;
- MOT and mileage history;
- finance, stolen and write-off markers;
- keepers;
- the market value.
If we couldn’t check something, the check says so. We never pad it with things we couldn’t confirm.
How it works
Give us the registration, and we return a clear, plain-English check on that specific car, on screen in seconds. No jargon, no upsell, just the picture you need to negotiate hard or walk away with confidence.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the car’s registration? Yes. The free check and the £10 vehicle history check both run on the registration.
Can you check an A110 that has been tracked? Yes. We surface the signals and you decide what they mean for you. The goal is an informed decision, not a pass or fail.
Which used Alpine should I buy? Whichever suits you. Whichever you choose, the individual car’s history matters more than the model, and that is what we check.
